Commissioners President Jim Stigale, during the October 15 meeting of the board of commissioners, was pleased to accept a check in the amount of $1 million from Kevin Andrews, chief of staff for Pa. State Representative Joe Hackett, R-161. The funds, which represent a state grant, will be used for streetscape improvements in the township.

The improvements are planned along the 0.8 mile stretch of Pennell Road between Concord Road and Duttons Mill Road. The work will consist of sidewalk  and curb ramp installation/improvements, pedestrian level lighting, landscaping, and landscaped center medians.  The improvements will contribute to increased mass transit ridership and economic development by creating a pedestrian-friendly environment and  connecting a variety of land uses including residential, commercial, office, institutional and recreational.  The improvements implemented along Pennell Road will serve as guidelines to implement similar improvements along Concord Road and Duttons Mill Road as future projects.

“I am grateful to have Rep. Joe Hackett represent our township,” said Stigale. “The StreetScape program is part of our overall Vision Plan, and these funds will certainly help us achieve our goal.”
