FALL IS RECYCLE TIME.  It’s time to switch our spring/summer wardrobe to fall/winter duds. AND, there’s no better time than now to get rid of those clothes we haven’t worn for “years.”  With 3, that’s right 3, establishments right here in Aston disposing of those clothes in a manner that benefits others as easy as, well, 1 – 2 – 3. Let’s not forget the other closets in our home – household items, working electronic gadgets, books, and the list goes on and on and on.

In the spirit of benefiting others, Aston has a FIRST – GreenDrop Charitable Donations Center , supporting Purple Heart  Veterans – located at Concord & Pennell Roads (the former Exxon gas station). GreenDrop provides Aston with a convenient, clean, safe, professionally-staffed and managed location to donate items you no longer have a use for (or just plain got “tired” of sitting around your house) in an environmentally-friendly manner.   Just drive up to the door and attendants will unload your donations and then provide you with a receipt making  a tax deduction a breeze. And just in case you were wondering –Purple Heart’s mission is to provide funding for many programs and services our Veterans desperately need, particularly in this challenging economic climate. You can still schedule a home pick-up by calling Purple Heart  at 1-800-338-1448.

Then there’s my favorite place: The Attic, 4728 Pennell Road, Broadway Plaza, The Attic is a collaborative project between the Bernardine  Franciscan Sisters and the Education Division of Elwyn Institute. Also, the shop provides Elwyn students with a structured workplace. If there are any profits by year’s end the proceeds are split between Elwyn and the Bernardine Sisters. This is a great place to get bargains on “gently used” clothing for the entire family in addition to household items, books, games, puzzles, jewelry – oh just about everything. To drop off items please call ahead, 610-497-2088. Donating and shopping at The Attic is a win-win situation – you make room in your closets and Elwyn and the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters benefit. Be sure to say HI to Sister Phyllis for me.

The third location is relatively new to Aston – Second Thoughts Resale Shop, located in the Valley View Shopping Center, 4908 Pennell Road, 484-490-5346.  Second Thoughts accepts items both on consignment and donation – seasonal items especially welcome. The shop is well lit, spacious and very organized. They too have clothing for the entire family, and a little bit of everything else (even a few tools for the “man” of the house). Please call ahead to get the specifics on their consignment policy. And if nothing else, stop by to see the great autumn window scene painted by a local art student.
