By Loretta Rodgers.
The Aston Township Parks and Recreation Committee in conjunction with the township board of commissioners, is pleased to announce the following first place and honorable mention winners in the inaugural township holiday decorating contest (below).
The holiday decorating contest ran through December 20 when teams of impartial judges were dispersed throughout each ward in the township to determine this year’s winners. Two residences in each ward were selected to receive a first place award of a $100 gift card to Giant Market and honorable mention winners received a $50 gift card to Wawa.
Parks and Recreation Committee Chairwoman Kit Spayd, who organized the contest, said she is delighted at the participation of the residents as well as the judges who, in some instances took hours to cover their assigned ward.
“I am so happy how this event turned out,” said Spayd. “Thank you to all the residents and businesses that participated. We are looking forward to next year’s contest.”
2nd Ward Commissioner Carol Graham, who serves as liaison to the Parks and Recreation Committee, said she has never seen the township look as festive as it does this year.
“Aston residents really did a great job decorating their homes this year,” Graham said. “The lights are beautiful and the township looks wonderful.”
