Rain and chilly temperatures did not deter the more than 600 Aston residents who attended the township’s annual tree lighting ceremony and winter festival.
The event, which took place on December 5 at the Aston Community Center, was organized by the township’s recreation committee.
The theme for the evening was the popular movie “Frozen,’ and featured the lighting of the official township Christmas Tree, old time carolers, storyteller Granny Annie, ornament making, visits by the Chick- Fil- A cow, Elsa and Anna from the popular movie “Frozen,” and of course, Santa Claus, who was available for photographs.
Upon entering, children received a goody bag filled with a coloring book and crayons, among other items.
Refreshments included pretzels in the shape of a candy cane, hot chocolate, cookies, orange drink, and water.
Green Drop was on site collecting gently used clothing and Aston’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors group was collecting canned goods for needy families.
Second Ward Commissioner Carol Graham, who serves as chair of the recreation committee, said the evening was “very exciting.”
“We all love to do this for the children of Aston and their families,” Graham said. “The volunteers deserve a lot of credit because they work so hard to make this event special. Seeing the looks on the faces of the children really makes the hard work all worthwhile.”
