Aston Township Sports Hall of Fame Committee members Kevin Talbot and Rob Locklear, during the March 10 meeting of the Aston Board of Commissioners, presented the board with a certificate of appreciation for their support and generosity.
The Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1999 by longtime township resident William “Butch” Ryan and his daughter, Nancy Sipple, a former Aston commissioner.
Talbot said it was the hope of the founding members that the Sports Hall of Fame recognize many of of the township’s outstanding citizen athletes from the past and present.
A banquet was held on March 11 at the King’s Mill Banquet Hall where more than 250 people gathered to honor the hall of fame inductees and scholarship recipients.
To date, the Aston Township Sports Hall of Fame has raised more than $50,000 in scholarships, which have been awarded to deserving Sun Valley High School student athletes.
“This is a great organization,” said Aston Commissioners President Jim Stigale. “Please continue the good work you do.”
