Longtime Aston Township Public Works employee Ron Cross, during the April 15 meeting , was presented with a proclamation by the board of commissioners, recognizing his retirement.
Cross started working for the township in 1974 and spent the past 41 years serving the residents of Aston. In addition to his regular springtime duties, he would clean up area parks and repair potholes. In the summer, Cross cut grass, and in the fall he would rake and participate in leaf collection.
During the winter months, he operated a snow plow and is responsible for helping to collect heavy trash.
Cross also served as a 15 year member of the township’s safety workplace committee.
A township resident for more than 40 years, Cross is a member of the Aston Township Lions Club. He also assisted in organizing the horseshoe tournaments held during Aston Community Day.
“I never thought when I started here that I would work 41 years in this place without getting fired, “ Cross said jokingly. “There were very few bad times and a lot of good times. I want to thank everyone for the support I received over the years, especially during the time my wife passed. Thank you all very much.”
