Attention Residents:
At the May 16, 2012 Aston Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the Aston Township Board of Commissioners voted to approve the amendment of chapter 123.10(a)(2) of the Aston Township Codified Ordinances to require the installation of curbs and sidewalks under certain circumstances for the issuance of a certificate of occupancy. What does this mean you ask?
At the time of transfer or resale of any property within the Township an inspection must be conducted before a certificate of occupancy will be issued. At this time, the Building Inspector/Code Official will inspect all sidewalks, curbs and driveway aprons; and if they are broken, cracked, reveal loose aggregate or scaling, and/or otherwise present a safety hazard, the property owner will be required to repair or replace the sidewalk, curb or driveway apron prior to the issuance of the certificate. If no curb or sidewalk exists on the property, the Building Inspector/Code Official may require the installation of curbing and/or sidewalk before a certificate of occupancy is issued if, in the opinion of the Building Inspector, Township Engineer and Township Manager, such is required to improve access, public safety and/or storm water runoff. This decision will be made on a case by case basis.
