Aston Commissioners, during the April 20 meeting, presented longtime township residents Dennis and Carol Cannon with a proclamation in recognition of their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Cannon’s were married on April 16, 1966 at Holy Saviour Church in Linwood and immediately moved to their home on Aston Mills Road- the very home that Dennis’ mother and step-father built.

The Cannon’s are parents of three children; Dennis, Paul, and Karron and they are grandparents of three.

Dennis, who was born and raised in Aston, is a retired bricklayer with Local #1. Over the years, Carol served in various capacities in the township, including as a member of the Penn-Delco School Board, where she was treasurer for four years. She also was chairperson of the local tax committee, secretary for the township tricentennial committee, and democratic committeewoman in the 2nd ward for more than 20 years.  She is also a member of the township vision and comprehensive planning committees.

Carol is a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she is a lector and Eucharistic minister. She also serves on the Evangelization Committee.

Currently , Carol is the president of the Friends of the Aston Public Library Board of Directors and treasurer of the Aston Township Historical Society.

Both Dennis and Carol were involved in the Aston Middletown Little League when their children were young and they are frequent attendees at Aston Commissioners meetings.

Commissioners President Jim Stigale, while presenting the Cannon’s with a proclamation, said the couple celebrated their anniversary on April 16 at St. Francis de Sales Church where they renewed their wedding vows. They were honored by family and friends at a party at the Ogden Fire hall.
