Starting on October 1st the Public Works department will be picking up recycling weekly.  This program is set to run until December 31st.  To simplify the collection process and to encourage residents to comply, recycling will be picked up on their regular trash day.  This change comes to the township as residents have expressed their interest in weekly recycling and township employees have already stepped up their recycling efforts.  Road Foreman Russ Palmore has seen an increase in his recycling over the years. “More and more of the items we purchase are recyclable, or come in recyclable containers.  I have gone from having two (2) cans of trash and one (1) can of recycling to two (2) cans of recycling and (1) can of trash. “

The Board of Commissioners hope that this effort from the Public Works department along with the drop off recycling center behind the township’s Municipal building and various events scheduled throughout the year like the Composting Workshop co-sponsored by the Chester Ridley Crum Watershed Association scheduled for Thursday, October 18th and upcoming Electronics and Paper recycling events will increase awareness about the importance of recycling.  “We see this as a time to move the Township forward; with a concentrated effort we can really create a positive impact on the community as a whole.  Increasing our recycling efforts is a win for everyone in the township.  We have an opportunity to help the environment, save the taxpayers’ money and create a culture of sustainability that we can pass on to the future residents of Aston Township,” said Board of Commissioners President James Stigale.

Over the past three weeks Public Works employees were placing hangers on residents’ doors informing them about the weekly recycling and are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labors. If you have any questions about the recycling program, feel free to contact the Administrative offices during business hours Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm at 610 – 494-1636.
