Aston Commissioners Recognize Andrew Gill on Eagle Scout Achievement

aston-web-scout-with-mike-higginsAston Commissioners, during the October 19 meeting, recognized township resident Andrew Gill on his promotion to Eagle Scout.

The son of Brian and Janemarie Gill, Andrew is a senior at Sun Valley High School.

His Eagle Scout project involved planning, supervising and painting two pre-K classrooms at Holy Family Regional Catholic School in Aston.

With assistance from adult scout leaders, fellow scouts, friends and family, the classrooms were painted prior to the beginning of the school year.

Andrew’s scouting career began in the second grade when he joined Cub Scout Pack #77 at Mount Hope United Methodist Church. As a cub scout he earned the Catholic Religious emblem, Parvuli Dei as well as the Arrow of Light, which is the highest award bestowed on a cub scout. Read more

Former First Ward Commissioner V. Michael Fulginiti Loses his Battle with ALS

fulginiti%201Aston Township is mourning the death of longtime resident, businessman and former 1st Ward Commissioner V. Michael Fulginiti.

After waging a courageous and very public three-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Fulginiti, surrounded by his loving family, succumbed to the debilitating disease just after midnight on Friday, October 14.

Aston Police Department Named 2016 Citizens Of The Year

Aston Commissioners, during the Sept. 21 meeting, named the Aston Police Department as 2016 Citizens of the Year.  Commissioners President Jim Stigale read a proclamation praising Chief Dan Ruggieri and members of the police department for their professionalism and dedication to the township.

“The Aston Township Police Department provides excellent, professional service each and every day along with great concern for the safety and well-being of the Aston Township Community,” Stigale said. “Our dedicated police officers respond to emergencies, which often are of a life-threatening nature. Their ability to evaluate the situation quickly with regard and respect for all involved is always practiced. The dangers they encounter can change in a matter of seconds. Read more

DCIU Conditional Use Hearing Update Statement

The last Conditional Use Hearing to consider a request by the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) for Conditional Use Approval to allow the DCIU to expand the current use at the Delaware County Technical School property at 100 Crozerville Road, Aston, PA was held on November 9, 2015. I now have a meeting update for the month of October 2016.

There will be an Update and Informational Meeting on Monday, October 3, 2016. At the meeting, the Township Engineer will review a proposed roundabout at Birney Highway and Crozerville Road and other changes to traffic patterns in and around the Delaware County Technical School (DCTS). These are expected to improve traffic flow in the area. Additionally, our Special Counsel Hugh Donaghue will provide an update to the proposed programs at the DCTS Campus, as well as, discuss Zoning, permitted uses and Conditional Use at the DCTS campus. There will be time for questions.

There will be a Conditional Use Hearing on Thursday, October 13, 2016 to consider a request by the DCIU for Conditional Use Approval at the DCTC Campus.

Both the Informational Meeting and the next Conditional Use Hearing will be held in the Commissioners Meeting Room, here at 5021 Pennell Road, Aston Pennsylvania starting at 7PM. Both will be advertised on the Township Website and the Public Access Channel, as well as, the Delaware County Daily Times. As in the past, residents in the area of the DCTC Campus will receive notification.
