Delaware County Council and the Department of Intercommunity Health are announcing the third public flu shot clinic of 2020. The clinic will be held on Wednesday, September 30, from noon to 5:30 p.m., and Thursday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Aston Community Center, located at 3270 Concord Road, Aston, PA 19014. Flu shots are available to all residents of Delaware County, 3 years of age or older. High dose vaccines for residents 65 years of age and older are not available. Aston Township was hit by two back to back severe storms during the week of August 3, 2020. The storm which occurred on Tuesday, August 4th resulted from the remnants of Tropical Storm Isais and was widespread over the entire county. The storm on Friday, August 7th was more localized, with Aston and other western Delco communities hit the hardest. The storm on Tuesday dropped 4.8 inches of rain over a 6-hour period which would be between a 50 and 100-year storm event. The Delaware County Compost Farm had closed approximately two years ago, within that time a contractor had signed a contract to do the work needed to keep the compost farm running. Unfortunately, the contractor has decided not to renew their contract forcing the permanent closure. Aston Township Public Works Director Russ Palmore has spent a large amount of time looking for another compost farm location so we would be able to continue to continue our leaf collection program, but has come up empty handed. After much consideration, it has been decided that the paper/cardboard recycling dumpster located behind the Aston Township Building will be removed and no longer available. Aston Township offers curbside pick-up of single stream recycling, which includes all paper and cardboard. With the removal of the dumpster you may place all paper and cardboard needing to be picked up out with your weekly recycling. The dumpster is scheduled to be removed on July 1, 2020. If you have any questions, please call the administration building during regular business hours.
Township offices at 5021 Pennell Road will reopen with limited access beginning on May 4, 2020. All visitors will be required to strictly comply with the CDC social distancing and face covering guidelines. Visitors will be asked to wait outside and wear a mask while maintaining a distance of 6 feet apart as they wait to be accepted into the building. During the COVID-19 pandemic, The County of Delaware Services for the Aging (COSA) and Community Transit are partnering to offer seniors an alternative to in-person grocery shopping. Community Transit drivers are available to get grocery lists and payment from seniors and shop and deliver their items. Seniors can stay safely in their homes.
