Aston Commissioners, during the June 15 meeting, via proclamation, honored township police officer Joseph Hart as 2015 Police Officer of the Year.
Hart, the son of Joseph, Sr. and Dale Hart, is a graduate of Sun Valley High School and the Delaware County Community College Municipal Police Academy.
Prior to being hired in 2011 by Aston Township, Hart was formerly employed as a part-time officer in Trainer Borough.
Hart was nominated for this honor by his fellow officers not for one lone event, but instead for the many contributions and sacrifices he has made on a daily basis to better aid the police department in serving the community.
“No matter what the problem, big or small, you can always count on Joe to be there to lend a helping hand as he has a strong sense of serving his fellow man and community,” said 5th Ward Commissioner Jim McGinn. “Joe’s high ethical and moral principles, along with his exemplary job performance are just a few of the reasons why he was selected for this honor.”
McGinn said Hart is a “shining example of what a police officer should be in today’s society and that he is a great asset to the Aston Township police department.
In addition the proclamation, Hart was honored in May by the Aston Township Lions Club and presented with a check in the amount of $250, which was donated to the police department.
