Aston, Pa., Oct. 31, 2022 — Aston Township and Crozer Health have come to an agreement to maintain the current advanced life support (ALS) medic provided by Crozer Health at the Aston Fire Department. These services will be provided at no additional cost to Aston Township and the Aston Township taxpayers.

In April 2022, former Crozer CEO, Kevin Spiegel, issued a letter to Aston Township officials and other Delaware County municipalities indicating that Crozer Health may have to discontinue paramedic services if a new funding agreement could not be reached. Since that time, Aston officials have spent significant time searching for alternatives.

At the most recent meeting held between Aston Township’s Fire Committee and Crozer Health officials, led by Crozer Health’s new CEO Anthony Esposito Jr., it was jointly agreed that the long-standing relationship between Aston and Crozer as it relates to ALS paramedic services will continue indefinitely.

Commissioner Joe McGinn Jr. who chaired the meeting with Crozer Health officials, thanked Mr. Esposito and the health system’s officials for their cooperation. “We are pleased that we can continue our well-established partnership with Crozer Health to provide critical life-saving paramedic services to the Aston community and neighboring municipalities. Crozer Health has been a critical provider of health care for Aston residents for decades. We thank Mr. Esposito for his efforts and we hope that under his new leadership, Crozer Health will continue to provide these essentials services for years to come.”

Crozer Health has provided ALS in Aston Township since 1983. While Aston Township Fire company supplies ambulance service, more formally known as basic life support (BLS) from the fire department, Crozer Health has a medic stationed at the department on a 24/7 basis. The medic, more formally known as advanced life support (ALS), is dispatched by Delaware County 911 and services not just Aston but neighboring municipalities as well.

Aston Township is a first-class township located in the heart of Delaware County. Aston is governed by a seven-person board of commissioners and served by a volunteer fire department and ambulance service. With nearly 17,000 residents, Aston Township is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. The Aston Township Fire Committee is chaired by Commissioner McGinn and includes Commissioner Nancy Bowden and Commissioner Les Berry. The committee also includes Aston Township Manager Bill DeFeo, Assistant Township Manager Kelly Pippin, Fire Marshall Tom Morgan, Aston Township Fire Company President, Sean Joyce, Fire Chief Mike Evans, and Deputy Chief Kenny Dawson.

Crozer Health is the largest healthcare provider in Delaware County.
