Please see the below message from Joe Connolly from SEPTA:
As ridership on Regional Rail continues to grow, particularly on weekends, SEPTA is restoring 123 trains – 99 weekend trains and 24 weekday trains – when new fall timetables go into effect this Sunday, September 8. On the Media/Wawa Line, the increased service will allow for the restoration of full hourly weekend train service – adding 12 trains to Saturday and Sunday schedules for a total of 36 inbound and outbound trains.
With the increased weekend service, six (6) inbound trains (toward Philadelphia) and six (6) outbound trains (toward Wawa) will be added to the Media/Wawa Line weekend schedule. On Saturdays and Sundays, the first train will now depart Wawa Station at 5:59 AM (13 minutes earlier than the current scheduled first train at 6:12 AM). The last outbound train will now arrive at Wawa Station at 12:31 AM (approximately one hour later than the current scheduled last train which arrives at Wawa Station at 11:38 PM). The new schedule is available at https://wwww.septa.org/wp-content/uploads/bulletin/MED_WEB_9_24.pdf and is attached to this email.
The fall schedules will restore 80% of pre-COVID service on weekdays (up from 77%) and 84% on weekends (up from 63%). Regional Rail ridership recovery is currently at about 67% of pre-pandemic levels. Weekend Regional Rail ridership has nearly recovered to pre-COVID levels, and we committed to our customers that we would be increasing service, based on crew availability and ridership demand. Increased service on the Media/Wawa Line has been a particular priority due to the hospitals and medical facilities directly served by the line in University City.
